Former President Olusegun Obasanjo presided over a colloquium held in celebration of the 60th birthday of former Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

The event took place on Monday, March 24, at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel.

Also in attendance was Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, who delivered the keynote address titled “Is Democracy Failing in Africa?”

Other dignitaries at the event included former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.

Atiku, who recently announced a coalition against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, acknowledged Emeka Ihedioha’s unwavering loyalty to him, even when they were on different political platforms.

The former vice president described Ihedioha as a dedicated and focused ally, emphasizing that their enduring relationship is a testament to his character.

He said in part; “When he told me about this event I was almost complaining, I said ‘Emeka, this is Ramadan. We’re in the last 10 days of Ramadan. In the last 10 days of Ramadan, we don’t sleep at night we sleep during the day. He said, ‘But oga try and make it.’ And I said, ‘Ok I will make it.’ Here we are today.”

With a dinner set to conclude the celebration on Monday night, March 24, Atiku’s recent coalition announcement has garnered support from many opposition leaders. Notably, he and his former boss, Obasanjo, have been seen making strategic moves ahead of the 2027 election.

Atiku stated that the coalition was prepared to unseat President Tinubu in the 2027 election. He made this remark at a recent press conference in Abuja, which was attended by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
